If It Is Worth A Try
I wrote a lullaby today
My raw voice running
out of things to say
faster than I could play
So I changed the words
and switched the key
Thinking less about you
and more about me
Ellis I'm not broken by the past
just rattled by mistakes
I'm still playing to a younger me
-this lullaby- as he wakes
The kid looks anxious even
broken beyond repair
Drenched in fear he is looking
for a father who is not there
And as I tell the kid that
"love is not a lie"
I find I contradict myself
endlessly wondering
if it is worth a try
